1.      Sing, Spell, Read and Write: The Musical Approach to Learning.  Donna Frecker (PVE)  Request for a kit that uses multi-sensory, multi-modal approach to reading instruction. Sing along songs, games, charts and stories are used to motivate students to learn. $688.55

 

2.      Celebration and Collaboration in Music. Matt Doublestein (ZWMS) Two musical pieces will be commissioned for the band at ZWMS. These pieces will be a large part of the year's curriculum. In addition, they will be dedicated to ZEF, Sandy Graef, and the eighth grade class.  $3,000

 

3.      H.U.G.S for Success!  Tonya Taylor and Monica Merriman (Eagle Elementary) This social skills curriculum will target children who struggle significantly with social skills.  Model Me Kid Videos will be used to demonstrate appropriate social skills. $385.85

 

4.      Preparing Writers for the 21st Century.  Jody Hobson, Shirley Lemons, Becky Ottinger (Eagle Elementary) Third and Fourth graders will utilize an online program called Writing Roadmap to enhance their writing skills.  This program will provide continuous and immediate feedback to the writers.  $1.478.00

 

5.      Handwriting Help for Everyone.  Carmen Marshall (Eagle Elementary) This program will allow teachers to access and develop the handwriting skills of all students.  Students will have access to tools that could make writing easier and more comfortable for them. This will target those students who do not qualify for occupational therapy, but still have significant needs in that area.  $1,300.00

 

6.      Projecting Success.  Amanda Vanderbur (ZCHS)  Request for a Dukane projector for AP Psychology classroom to enhance learning opportunities. It may also be used after school for the ZCHS Fit Club. $2,675.00

 

7.      VersaTiles in the Third Grade Classroom.  Maureen Glassberg (Eagle Elementary) Versa Tiles reading kits combine the challenge of a puzzle with the purposeful practice of a workbook.  Students receive immediate feedback using self-correcting cases. $1,616.00

 

8.      Creating a Level Playing Field: Taking Instruments to New Heights.  Julia Graham (Eagle and Union Elementary)  Purchase of Orff instruments and stands for music classrooms at both Eagle and Union elementary schools. The additional Orff instruments would allow students many more opportunities to experience musical growth.  $8,123.44 

 

9.      Pioneer to the New World. Wendy Yuan (ZCHS, ZMS, ZWMS)  Request from the new Chinese program for traditional Chinese items used to celebrate the Chinese New Year.  Many of these will be used in future projects.  $431.00 

  

10.  Virtual Business: Simulation Software for Reinforcing Knowledge in Today’s Student Business Learner.  Gil Speer and Kyle Par (ZCHS) Four different software simulations requested for use with the business classes.  Using this software will allow the students the opportunity to apply concepts taught in all business classes.  $4,300.00

 

11.  Advanced Physical Conditioning Speed Development.  Larry McWhorter, John Crist (ZCHS) A Speedtrap Training System was requested. This equipment is used to improve strength and speed development.  $449.00

 

12.  Reading is a B.L.A.S.T!  Tonya Taylor (Eagle Elementary) Two iPods will be used to make high interest digital text available to third and fourth graders. Struggling readers will be the target population for this technology.  $750.00

 

13.  "Balanced" Learning.  Jeanne Halik (Union Elementary) This project uses WittFitt balance balls in 2nd grade classroom in place of student chairs. $959.00

 

14.  Advanced Studies in Kinematics and Dynamics.  Matt Mulholland (ZCHS) Students in advanced physics will further their study of kinematics and dynamics by building and experimenting with an electric go-kart. $3,620.75

 

15.  Using Pedometers to Measure Steps to Success.  Delora Douglas and Janice Smith (Union Elementary) A Fourth grade teacher and school nurse will use pedometers to enrich the science curriculum and student wellness.  $950.00

 

16.  Intensive Reading Intervention Program.  Abby Fox, Derek Simmons, Allison Spillman (Stonegate Elementary) This intervention program compliments the newly adopted reading series and will be used on the students' instructional reading levels. Students in grades 1-3 who require extra reading intervention will benefit from this program. $2,127.90

 

17.  Snapshots of Learning.  Joann Lamaster, Emily Clare, Amanda Livengood (Stonegate Elementary)  Request for digital cameras to supplement student writing projects. Photographs will be used to encourage writing and complete memory books. $898.61

 

18.  Viva Violin Day!  Susan Lyons (ZCHS) This project brings a guest artist to ZCS who will conduct workshops and master classes for students.  $3,000.00
